Football Happened Last Night: The Packers are Good

In case you missed it, football happened last night. I didn't catch it because I have priorities (those being 'Big Brother' and 'Project Runway'), so I can't give you a play by play. I can, however, give you a simple rundown of what happened.

Last night was a shootout that ended in a goal-line stand. Saints running back, Mark Ingram, attempted to score from the one-yard line with no time left on the clock. Drew Brees is a Super Bowl winning, Pro Bowler who had thrown for over 400 yards last night and the Saints give the potential game winner to a rookie against one of the best defenses in the league. I don't understand that move, but I hope the Saints learn from it. 

Obviously if you are on my blog, you don't care too much about details. If you want the full story, turn on Sportscenter. I will leave you with this, the Packers will win their division. Also, I am going to see if I can pick up Randall Cobb in my fantasy league because he broke out last night with a touchdown and record tying, 108 yard kickoff return.

What to Watch Tonight- Pigskin

Big Brother (CBS)- Another eviction tonight. Kalia was evicted last night and Adam won Head of Household. We are now down to four and tonight will make it three. Who will go home?

CBS Fall Preview (CBS)- What is the point of this? This is basically a 30 minute preview for upcoming shows. Why?

NFL Football: Saints at Packers (NBC)- Are you ready for some football? Crack open a cold beverage,  grab some pizza and wings, and sit down for some 'Project Runway.'

Project Runway (Lifetime)- Tonight's episode is a 90 minute ad for HP, but I am sure it will be "Fabulous!"

Wilfred/Louie (FX)- Season finales. THese are the two shows that I should have been watching this summer. I have started season 1 of 'Louie' and it is great. I will catch up on Louie when it comes to Netfilx and hopefully 'Wilfred' will be on Netflix so I can start that.

Netflix: Repo Man- So I was looking for a movie on Netflix when this guy turns around and tips his hat. And who do you think that guy was? Emilio Estevez. The Mighty Duck man, I swear to God, he was there. I was like, "Emilio!"

Pryor to Raiders- Offered Bacon as Signing Bonus

Terrelle Pryor was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the third round of today's supplemental draft. Pryor was the only player taken in today's draft. Pryor should see a decent chunk of change from this pick. ESPN reports:

Based on the rookie scale used to sign picks from April's draft, Pryor would be expected to get a four-year deal at $2.36 million, including a $591,000 signing bonus.

That's a lot of tattoos or if you are former Raiders first overall pick, Jamarcus Russell, a lot of bacon. Russell was the last big name quarterback the Raiders drafted, but he was cut after three seasons for several reasons including reports of him weighing over 300 pounds.

Terrelle Pryor Eligible for NFL... Just Not Yet

Terrelle Pryor is eligible for the 2011 supplemental draft according to ESPN. The 2011 supplemental draft will take place on August 22, instead of the originally scheduled date of yesterday. He will be suspended for the first five games of the season, although he will be allowed to play in any preseason game. The NFL is continuing the suspension he accepted at the end of the 2010 NCAA season.

Eligibility for the supplemental draft requires that a player be deemed ineligible for the NCAA season, such as failing to qualify academically. Turns out, Terrelle Pryor manufactured his ineligibility:

"... Pryor made decisions that undermine the integrity of the eligibility rules for the NFL Draft," the league said. "Those actions included failing to cooperate with the NCAA and hiring an agent in violation of NCAA rules, which resulted in Ohio State declaring him ineligible to continue playing college football."

I think Pryor is lucky to receive only the five game suspension. He purposefully broke the rules in order to get around his five game suspension in the NCAA and his lack of tattoo funds. The NFL should have made him sit out until next years draft. Instead of a five game NCAA suspension while making no money, Pryor will now have a five game NFL suspension while making hundreds of thousands of dollars to potentially millions. Oh, loopholes.

What to Watch Tonight-Trainspotting Big Brother

Wipeout (ABC)- You know what the deal is. This is the most enjoyable show of the summer. If you have a pulse, you will laugh. I dare you, nay, defy you to not laugh during this show.

Big Brother (CBS)- If you watched last night you will know that Lawon put himself up for eviction thinking he will gain powers with the "twist." What Lawon doesn't know is that this is not a comic book. He sacrificed himself for nothing and he most likely won't make it back into the house, since he is a floater and can't compete with anyone. If this all confuses you, don't worry. I have been sucked in by this mindless crap.

So You Think You Can Dance (FOX)- Season finale. Someone wins. You heard it here first. If you care about this show, post a recap in the comments.

NFL Football Exhibition: Seahawks at Chargers (ESPN)- NFL football has arrived. Get ready to take a look at two teams who aren't on my radar. I might catch a glimpse of the game tonight, but I doubt it. If anything of importance happens, I will post it tomorrow. I wouldn't hold your breath.

Netflix: Trainspotting- This 1996 British film is based on a novel of the same name. It follows the lives of a group of youthful heroin addicts in Scotland. It stars Ewan McGregor of Star Wars and soothing accents fame. A fellow soothing accent-alum, Kelly Macdonald, also stars. You may remember Macdonald as Irish widow, Margaret Schroeder in the HBO series 'Boardwalk Empire.' Enjoy the trailer for the new season below.

Sports News of the Day- Moss Retires

Randy Moss has decided to call it quits, but something tells me (and pretty much anyone with a brain) that he will be back. It is just a matter of time or money before Moss decides to call retirement quits and head back to football.

Randy Moss has been a favorite of fantasy football players and Madden gamers for years, but his antics have plagued every team he has ever been with. He was being a superstar diva before it was mainstream. His whole gig of being "more important than the team" is tried and true and some NFL team will realize this when they have a thin receiving core.

Moss will go where the money is. He is young enough to still bring in a hefty pay day, but old enough to not be locked in for years. Who knows? Maybe your favorite NFL team will be lucky enough to pick up Moss from his retirement with Brett Favre.

Lots of movement today- NFL Edition

Sorry for posting so late today, I've had an interesting morning.

Lots to report about in NFL free agency. Listed below you will find all free agency pickups and new deals that are of any interest to me.

• Reggie Bush- The Saints traded Bush to the Dolphins for safety Jonathon Amaya. It is a two year deal worth $10 million. Bush has never lived up to the hype, but the Dolphins were so bad on offense last year that he may get his chance to shine.

• Stephen Bowen- The former Cowboy signed with rival Washington Redskins for a 5-year, $27.5 million contract including $12.5 million in guarantees. That is a large amount for money for a guy who is not a guaranteed starter. The Cowboys are now left with a need for defensive ends. 

• Daryn Colledge- Super Bowl Champion guard Colledge signed with the Cardinals for a 5-year, $27.5 million contract. The Cards gain a much needed lineman in Colledge and his experience should bring some strength to the line.

• Vince Young- Seems that Young will be released soon. This is not unexpected. The Titans drafted Jake Locker and will nurture him instead of Young's fragile ego. 

• Albert Haynesworth- The Redskins traded Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 2013 draft pick. My first thought on this is good luck to the scout team center for the Patriots. Wilfork and Haynesworth will be putting a beating on that poor guy. 

• Stephen Nicholas- He may not be a household name, but Nicholas is a former teammate of mine and a very reliable linebacker for the Falcons. Nicholas signed a 5-year, $17.5 million contract.

Sources say

So I guess ESPN no longer uses actual reporters. As I was checking their website I noticed an unusually high amount of stories that start with "Sources." Who are these mythical "sources." I think ESPN is getting duped by a renegade band of NFL team headquartered janitors. Take a look below.

Sports Update- NFL is Back

In keeping with the theme of this blog, I have decided to report on the NFL's lockout situation days after the news broke about a deal being made. Months of back and forth between owners and players (that have caused me personal grief) has finally culminated with a new CBA. What does this mean? Not much. If you are so inclined, google it, but I will give you some highlights.

• $120 million salary cap- This is slightly less, but nothing too substantial.
• No more two-a-days. This is big for the older players looking to avoid unnecessary injuries, but this may cause the younger players to have a bigger learning curve. 
• New rookie pay scale- This means the top draft picks will not get an ungodly amount of money before ever seeing the field.
• Minimum salary increases- Longsnappers rejoice! This is big for undrafted free agents and second-teamers who get nowhere near the amount of money their bigger named peers earn. 

All this means for you, the loyal football fan, is football is back. Not the Women's World Cup, but actual pigskin football. Enjoy your Sundays and keep posted because I will preview this season in the upcoming weeks.
